The International Competitiveness of China's Edible Fungi Industry
As a kind of mountain delicacy with rich nutrition and outstanding medicinal value, edible fungi are widely used in food, medicine and other fields, and play an important role in ecological agriculture and the health industry. Its cultivation technology has the characteristics of "not competing for grain, land and fertilizer", and is a model of green agriculture.
Since the founding of the People's Republic of China, China's edible fungi cultivation technology has made rapid progress. The edible fungi industry has become the fifth largest agricultural product after grain, oil, fruit and vegetables, and is mainly exported.
Trade scale:
In 2023, the total import and export trade volume of China's edible fungi products will be 722,800 tons and the total import and export trade volume will be US$2.957 billion.
Compared with 2015:
The total import and export trade volume of China's edible fungi products increased by 308,000 tons, an increase of about 74.25%, and an average annual compound growth rate of about 7.19%;
The total import and export trade volume increased by US$1.415 billion, an increase of about 91.75%, and an average annual compound growth rate of about 8.48%.
Trends in import and export unit prices:
The export unit price of Chinese edible fungi products is higher than the import unit price in most years. In 2023, the export unit price of Chinese edible fungi products is 0.64 US dollars/kg higher than the import unit price.
Compared with 2019:
The import unit price of Chinese edible fungi products increased by 0.43 US dollars/kg, an increase of about 14.13%;
The export unit price increased by 0.53 US dollars/kg, an increase of about 15.08%.
Import and export volume:
In 2023, China's edible fungi product import volume was 1293.91 tons, and the import value was 4.463 million US dollars; the export volume was 721542.78 tons (about 721,500 tons), and the export value was 2952471800 US dollars (about 2.952 billion US dollars).
With technological progress and quality improvement, China's edible fungi industry has shown strong competitiveness in the international market. In 2023, both the import and export scale and the export unit price showed a steady growth trend. In the future, with the in-depth development of ecological agriculture and the big health industry, the edible fungus industry will continue to usher in more opportunities and contribute to the promotion of China's agricultural modernization and international trade cooperation.
